FMM Pro: Farmers Market Manager Certification Program Re-Launches

In 2016, the Farmers Market Federation of NY, in conjunction with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, NYSDAM’s Fresh Connect Program and SUNY Cobleskill launched the state’s first ever course for farmers market managers: FMM Pro: Farmers Market Managers Professional Certification Program. Since that time over 90 farmers market managers have participated in the course, building professional management skills that helped them create and operate farmers markets that meet the needs of their communities.

Today, we announce that the FMM Pro is re-launching with a fully revised curriculum that has been updated to cover all aspects of maintaining and growing a successful farmers market as markets navigate new regulations, a new working environment and ever-changing consumer trends. The curriculum consists of 17 sessions under 3 general modules:

  1. Farmers Market Management Basics

  2. Marketing and Communications

  3. Advanced Business Planning

Program participants who complete the full curriculum will receive certificates signed by the three partnering agencies and will have earned the title of Certified Market Manager. As a FMM PRO Certified Market Manager, graduates of the program will:

  • Be fully knowledgeable in today’s best practices for managing farmers markets

  • Learn tactics to expand and optimize their farmers market

  • Be equipped to build successful relationships with farmers and shoppers

  • Be able to use their certification to leverage funding and support for their market

Past graduates of the FMM Pro: Farmers Market Manager Certification Program have said the course gave them new insights into market management and helped them grow their markets to enhance the success of their farmers and build their importance within their community.

The cost of the Farmers Market Managers Professional Certification will be an affordable $200 for NY managers and will provide 12 months of access to the online curriculum.  Participants will need to complete all 17 sessions within this time frame, including successfully completing a quiz and homework assignment from each section to receive certification.  In addition, they will need to earn 2 continuing education credits bi-annually post-certification by attending special sessions at the Federation’s annual Farmers Market Managers Conference and/or specified manager training webinars in order to keep their Certification active.
