Undeclared Peanut Allergens in Stash Foods’ “Kelewele Hot Spices”

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers to undeclared peanut allergens in Stash Foods’ “Kelewele Hot Spices,” distributed by Eden Wholesale LLC, located at 552 Casanova Street, Bronx, N.Y. 10474. People who have severe sensitivity to peanuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. To date, no illnesses have been reported to this Department in connection with this product.

Stash Foods’ “Kelewele Hot Spices” is packaged in an 8 oz. plastic jar and bears a container code of “Batch# SF/KHS/03-18,” with a bar code of “7582039120186,” a production date of “March 2018” and is labeled “best before December 2022.”  The product is imported from Ghana.               

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained peanut allergens, which were not declared on the label.
