Imagine Spider-Man at the Great New York State Fair, gliding on a web above an astonished crowd outside the Fair’s Exposition Center on yet another urgent mission to fight crime. The creative geniuses at Marvel Comics have already done the hard job of imagining it and fans of the superhero, the Fair or both can now have that scene for their own. The Fair and Salt City Comic Con will sell a Spider Man comic with a special limited-edition cover showing the Expo Center and the famous web-slinger from New York City.
The cover and comic, created by special arrangement with Marvel Comics, will be for sale in small quantities at the Salt City Comic Con, July 6-7 at the Expo Center and during the Fair’s first-ever Comic Con at the Fair Day, Wednesday, August 28.
“We’re thrilled to partner with our friends at Salt City Comic Con and with Marvel Comics, a great New York company, to bring this terrific idea to life. Our friends at the New York State Police do a wonderful job of keeping everyone safe during the Fair but it’s fun to imagine Spidey reuniting a lost child with his parents. These two Comic Con events are going to be great fun and I encourage everyone to take part,” said Troy Waffner, Fair Director.
Salt City Comic Con is moving to the Expo Center this year and will focus on pop culture from comics, movies, TV shows, books, graphic novels and cosplay. Actor Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in “Ghostbusters,” will be present on Saturday, along with one of the original Ghostbusters vehicles, the Ecto-1. Other celebrity appearances include “The Munsters” actor Butch Patrick, WWE wrestler Lita and several stars of professional wrestling, former New York Mets pitcher Dwight “Doc” Gooden, several comics writers and artists and more. More than $1,200 in prize money is available in cosplay competitions for adults and youths.
While details on the Fair’s Comic Con Day are still being firmed up, the day will offer $1 admission for cosplayers in full costumes as well as training in the use of Lightsabers, the swordlike weapons in Star Wars movies, and an evening of classic movies. There will be appearances from Bumblebee, from the “Transformers” movies, and Hulkbusters from the Marvel movies and comics.
