Acting New York State Commissioner of Agriculture Richard A. Ball announced the following events taking place at the New York State Fairgrounds from April 4 to 6:
Trained animals, clowns, acrobats and more return to the Fairgrounds this weekend as the Tigris Shrine Circus takes place from Friday to Sunday. The circus is the main local fundraiser to support the worldwide work of the Shriners to provide medical care to children. Showtimes in the Toyota Coliseum are Friday at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at 10:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tickets, priced at $13, are available at the door or online from tigrisshrinecircus.com. Advance sale tickets are available at Solvay Bank branches, Nichols Supermarket, Nojaims, Mazzye’s Meats, and Big M stores.
Families can set their agendas for the entire summer at Family Times Magazine’s annual Summer Fun and Camp Fair Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.in the Center of Progress Building. Admission is free. The event showcases information from summer and day camps, places for day trips and longer vacations, and amusement parks and other summer events. The event features a petting zoo and a 22 foot bounce slide.
Sports fans will enjoy the Collectorsfest Sports Memorabilia Show at the Horticulture Building from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.Sunday. Scores of vendors will offer all kinds of collectible items. In addition, former Syracuse University basketball star C.J. Fair will appear from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. to sign autographs for $15, and former Dallas Cowboys great Mel Renfro will sign autographs for $25 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Admission is $4, with children age 10 and under free. The Central New York Theatre Organ Society holds its annual spring concert Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Empire Theater of the Art and Home Center. Scott Foppiano will play the Syracuse Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ. Tickets are $15 for adults, $2 for children.
The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.
In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.
