Krasnyi Oktyabr USA Inc Issues an Alert on “Vobla Dry Eviscerated Salted Fish”

Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. located at 60 20th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232 is recalling Vobla-Dry Eviscerated Salted Fish because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridiumbotulinum, a bacterium which can cause life threatening illness or death.  Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Botulism, a potential fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms:  general weakness, dizziness, blurred or double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing.  Difficulty in breathing weakness of other muscles abdominal distention and constipation may also be common symptoms.  People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention. 

The product is sold in an un-coded clear, vacuum pack/plastic bag is a product of Russia. The product was sold in retail stores in New York and California.  

The potential for contamination was noted after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspection and subsequent analysis of the product by food Laboratory personnel confirming that the fish was not properly eviscerated prior to processing.
