K-FAT Inc. Issues an Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in KFI Sweetened Ginger Candy

K-Fat Inc. 13 Meadow St. Brooklyn, N.Y., 11206 is recalling KFI Sweetened Ginger Candy because they contain undeclared sulfites.  People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled K-Fat Inc comes in a 8.8oz (250g). clear plastic container with the following code:  The UPC code is 8935001201304. The product was sold in New York City and New Jersey area. It is a product of Vietnam.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling by NYS department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of KFI  SWEETENED GINGER CANDY which did not declare sulfites on the label.  The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.  Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
