Golden Natural, of Brooklyn, NY is recalling its 1 pound package of "Golden Natural Product" brand Fruit Compote Mix because they contained undeclared sulfites. Consumers who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled "Golden Natural Product" brand Fruit Compote Mix were distributed throughout New York City in retail stores. The product comes in 1 pound clear plastic package marked with lot #GC006 and Best Before 2023 date on the back. The product UPC code is 4784002211119.

No illnesses or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 1 pound packages of "Golden Natural Product" brand Fruit Compote Mix which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfite per serving has been reported to elicit sever reactions on some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfite. Analysis of the "Golden Natural Product"  brand Fruit Compote Mix revealed they contain 45.51 milligrams per serving.
