New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers of the presence of undeclared wheat allergens in cinnamon buns, mini cinnamon buns, alfajores duos, brownies, and muffins, which were manufactured by Local Roots Baker. which is an unapproved/unlicensed source, located in Columbus, OH 43265, and sold in parts of New York State. People who have severe sensitivity to wheat may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. To date, no illnesses have been reported to this Department in connection with this product.
Local Roots Bakery cinnamon buns, mini cinnamon buns, alfajores duos, brownies, and muffins were sold in assorted sized plastic packaging with no coding. The product was distributed in the Hudson Valley and Long Island regions of New York.
The misbranding was identified during a consumer complaint investigation and subsequent product sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors. Analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained wheat allergens, which were not declared on the label.
Consumers who may have purchased these products should not consume them and are advised to discard the product immediately and to contact the Department via email at [email protected].
