Consumer Alert - Undeclared Sulfites in Gorgeous Memory brand “DayLily”

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers that Minhang Food Co. Ltd, located at 103 Eldridge Street in New York, NY, is recalling Gorgeous Memory brand “DayLily” due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. This product contains dried lily flower petals used in various foods.  No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product. 

The recalled Gorgeous Memory brand “DayLily” is packaged in a 10.6 oz. (300 gram) plastic bag.  There is a UPC code of 6-932960-968806 located on the back of the package but there is no other coding on the product.  The product is a product of China. 

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites which were not declared on the label.  The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.  Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.  Consumers who are sensitive to sulfites and have purchased the Gorgeous Memory brand “DayLily” should discard the product.
