New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers that Best Buy International Food Inc. Market, located at 409-411 Brighton Blvd in Brooklyn, NY, is recalling Golden Natural Product Inc. brand “Dried Apricots” due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. To date, no illness have been reported to the Department of Agriculture and Markets in connection with this product. If consumed, this product poses a risk to those who have severe sensitivity to sulfites.
The recalled Golden Natural Product Inc. brand “Dried Apricots”” is packaged in a 16 oz. (454 g) plastic bag. The product has a code of “Best Before 2019 Lot 3” and a packed on date of 07 October 2016”. It has a UPC code of 4-883000-230204. It is a product of Tajikistan and was sold in the NYC metro area.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Safety Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to cause severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
