CONSUMER ALERT: Undeclared Sulfites in Choose Snacks Corp. Cranberry Pecan Mix

New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers that Choose Snacks Corp., located at 769 Arnow Ave., Bronx, NY 10467, is recalling 8 oz. packages of “Cranberry Pecan Mix” with a sell by date of “12-3-20” due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. To date, no illnesses have been reported to this Department in connection with this product. 

The recalled “Cranberry Pecan Mix” are packaged in clear, plastic 8 oz. clamshell containers.  Containers are labeled with the UPC Code 312884990279. Consumers who are sensitive to sulfites and have purchased “Cranberry Pecan Mix” with a sell by date of “12-3-20” and distributed by Choose Snack Corp. should discard the product.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by New York State Food Laboratory personnel revealed that the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label.  The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock, in some asthmatics and sensitive individuals.
