CONSUMER ALERT: Undeclared Peanut Allergens in "Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal""

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers to undeclared peanut allergens in “Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal,” imported and distributed by AB International Market Inc, located at 548 Casanova St, Bronx, NY 10474.  People who have severe sensitivity to peanuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product.

The recalled “Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal” is packaged in a 500 g, plastic container with a UPC code of 6732864520199.  The product is also labeled with “Batch #TE/TB/12-20, Production date: Dec. 2020, Best Before Dec. 2024”.  The product is imported from Ghana and was sold from the cash and carry retail store at 548 Casanova St, Bronx, NY 10474.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained peanut allergens, which were not declared on the label.
