Consumer Alert: Undeclared Peanut Allergens in “Tayaako Special Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal”

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers to undeclared peanut allergens in “Tayaako Special Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal,” distributed by AB International Market Inc, located at 548 Casanova Street, Bronx, NY 10474 and sold at AB International Market at 2233-35 Jerome Ave, Bronx, NY 10453.  People who have severe sensitivity to peanuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product.

The recalled “Tayaako Special Tom Brown Roasted Cornmeal” is packaged in a 3 kg. plastic bag.  The product bears a Container Code of “Batch# TE/TB/02-19,” a Production Date of “Feb. 2019,” and Best Before Date of “Dec. 2023.”  The product is imported from Ghana.               

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained peanut allergens, which were not declared on the label.
