New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers to undeclared peanut allergens in “Fofana Okra Powder,” imported and distributed by Fofana Inc, located in the Bronx, New York 10457. People who have severe sensitivity to peanuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product.
The recalled “Fofana Okra Powder” is packaged in a 17.5 ounce plastic jar and bears a bar code: “681565453427”. The product is imported from Ghana and was sold in retail stores in New York State.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained peanut allergens, which were not declared on the label.
