New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers that goat milk produced by Side Hill Acres farm, located at 79 Spencer Rd., Candor, NY 13743, is being voluntarily recalled due to improper pasteurization. Proper pasteurization heats milk in order to effectively eliminate all pathogenic bacteria, such as listeria and salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to the Department to date in connection with this product.
The recalled goat milk was sold at GreenStar Co-op Market in Ithaca and the Side Hill Acres store in Candor under the name Side Hill Acres Goat Milk. It was packaged in gallon, half-gallon, quart and pint-sized plastic containers bearing the container code number 10516.
A routine inspection conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Milk Control and Dairy Services revealed that this lot of product was improperly pasteurized.
