2021 Onion Research and Development Program Continuing Referendum Vote Notice to Growers

2021 Onion Research and Development Program Continuing Referendum Vote Notice to Growers

The Department of Agriculture and Markets is announcing a referendum for the approval of the New York State Onion Research and Development Program (ORDP). The ORDP funds research projects that are vital in maintaining the profitability of New York onion growers. At least 50 percent of all New York State onion growers participating in the referendum must approve the program for it to continue.

A vote is required to be held among New York’s onion industry every six years to approve the ORDP. Any entity engaged within New York State in the business of producing onions for any market in 2021 is entitled to vote in the referendum.

Ballots are due to the Department of Agriculture and Markets by December 15, 2021. Additional program details can be found on the Department website, along with the Official Notice of Referendum and ballot.
