Special cookie decorating, ornament crafting and face painting events at the new Winterloo celebration, which begins this weekend, offers families new fun and creative ways to enjoy the Christmas holiday season. Winterloo, a new production of the Great New York State Fair, takes place over two weekends in the Exposition Center at the New York State Fairgrounds: Saturday, Dec. 7 and 14 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 8 and 15 from Noon - 6 p.m. There is no charge for admission or parking. Coat check is available for $2. Winterloo is a holiday festival featuring shopping, fun food, rides and games and holiday-themed activities.
At the cookie decorating station, open throughout Winterloo, families can provide festive decorations to cookies that they can then take home. Cookies are $3 each or two for $5, with decorations provided for free. Baldwinsville bakery JessiCakes is sponsoring the event. Nearby, family members can sit down to decorate ornaments for the Christmas tree. Those who allow their ornaments to be hung in the Chuck Hafner’s Farmers Market Tree Circle will have the ornaments mailed to them after the show along with four tickets to the 2020 Great New York State Fair. A face painter will offer holiday-themed decorations for $3 and up.
“We’ve created Winterloo to make the season just a little bit brighter,” said Troy Waffner, Fair Director. “We know that these activities, and others that we will announce shortly, will add joy to this special season for families and friends.”
Winterloo will provide holiday shoppers with several dozen vendors offering unique gift ideas. People, meanwhile, can enjoy the mini-Midway inside the Expo Center, featuring the 50 foot-tall World’s Largest Snowman Bounce House. Tasty food and drinks will be available, and a stage will host musical performances each Saturday.
Special fireworks displays will end each Saturday of Winterloo. Starting at 8 p.m., the Majestic Fireworks show will fill the December sky with color as holiday music plays. The show will feature special 8 inch shell fireworks, larger than are used for the State Fair’s own show, to provide a higher and more intense experience.
